Iggy the Iguana and Melissa M Williams Tour Cyber Space in a Virtual Blog Tour

Beginning February 1 – Melissa M Williams and Iggy the Iguana will tour cyber space and you’re invited to join them. We are so excited to bring you these stories of an iguana who can help children (and adults) learn about acceptance, friendship and diversity. We have a special giveaway for the most active and the best commenter during the tour – so visit each stop, read the post and leave a comment and you will have a chance to win an Iggy gift pack. The schedule is posted below and we look forward to seeing you there.

Iggy the Iguana

Iggy the Iguana is the first book in the Iggy Chapter Book Series for ages 7 to 11. The story focuses on the major themes of acceptance, friendship, and diversity while Iggy starts a brand new school. The transition from a private “all-lizard” school to a public “all-animal” school is eye opening, as Iggy soon accepts that just because other animals are different doesn’t mean they can’t be your friends. By the end of Iggy’s 4th grade year, he realizes that changing schools was the best move he could have ever made!

Summer League (Sequel)

Summer League is the second book in the Iggy the Iguana Chapter Book Series for ages 7 to 11. After an exciting school year, Iggy and his friends kick off their summer vacation with some fun in the sun and … baseball! While playing on his All-Star little league team, Iggy faces a very difficult situation that could change his future in sports forever. Iggy learns many valuable lessons during the summer, most importantly, it is not wise to keep secrets from adults and we can’t judge others on the outside.

About Melissa M Williams

Melissa M. Williams is an advocate for literacy and creativity in children. Her children’s chapter books were inspired by real life experiences with childhood pets she owned while growing up in Houston, Texas. While finishing her Master’s degree in Professional Counseling, Melissa started substitute teaching for elementary schools in order to understand the daily life of her young audience. The students helped her create relatable and realistic stories while including lessons, values and acceptance within the story-line. In addition to writing, Melissa spends most of the school year speaking to students about her own journey as an author and the process of creative writing, while encouraging each student to think outside the box, follow their inner passion, and write their own stories.

Cafe Tempest: Adventures on a Small Greek Island by Barbara Bonfigli – Summer Virtual Book Tour

Would you like to travel to an exotic Greek island this summer? This year – we have a great opportunity for you. Author, Barbara Bonfigli, has completed her first novel and you can travel to this fictional Greek island through the pages of her fictional memoir. Meet Sarah and come along as she visits the island, sails the waters around the island, eats and drinks local food and drink and as she organizes a summer play which is put on with a fascinating array of local characters.

Café Tempest: Adventures on a Small Greek Island

A fictional memoir that does for Greece what A Year in Provence did for France.

What is it about Greece that makes it so exotic, so romantic, so tantalizing that it’s right at the top of everybody’s bucket list – the one foreign land they’re longing to visit? Our dreams are made on Never on Sunday, Zorba the Greek, and more recently My Big Fat Greek Wedding and Mama Mia.

Café Tempest: Adventures on a Small Greek Island is a witty, evocative, beautifully written novel that puts you right in the heart of Greek island life. It’s so alive with the sights and smells and tastes and characters of Greece that you can pick it up and start your Mediterranean vacation on page one. On a deeper level, the book is filled with the kinds of observations, reflections, and arc of self-discovery that make Eat, Pray, Love so compelling.

“Welcome to Pharos. Laugh and dance in the hammock—not the cradle—of Western civilization,” says author, lyricist, and theatrical producer Barbara Bonfigli. “I’ve been falling in love with Greece since I was old enough to drink retsina. But if Sarah hadn’t captured my imagination you’d never know how I feel about friendship, feta, and the abundance of grace that turns friends into lovers and fishermen into kings.”

Synopsis

When Sarah, an American theatrical producer, is asked to direct the locals in their summer show, she picks Shakespeare’s play The Tempest. What follows is a hilarious adventure in casting, rehearsing, and consuming. Her neighbors are excited about acting but delirious about eating. Their rehearsals in a deconsecrated church become a feast in four acts.

Armed with a sizzling wit, a dangerously limited Greek vocabulary, and a pitch-perfect ear for drama, Sarah navigates the major egos and minor storms of a cab driver Caliban, a postmaster Prospero, and a host of fishermen dukes and knaves.

When she falls in love, there are even trickier seas to navigate. Her own offstage romance provides an exhilarating, unpredictable counterpoint to Shakespeare’s story of magic, intrigue, and the power of love.

Café Tempest is Barbara Bonfigli’s first novel. Visit: www.barbarabonfigli.com

The book includes luminous illustrations by Roman artist Gaia Franchetti and seven favorite Greek recipes, re-created and embellished by chef Ana Espinosa.

Willing Spirits by Phyllis Schieber – Virtual Tour Begins March 3rd

Willing Spirits by Phyllis Schieber

Explore Friendships Between Women and the Challenges in Life That They Face Together – Men, Marriage, Love & Children

March 1, 2009With the re-release of Willing Spirits, Phyllis Schieber firmly establishes herself as a premier author of women’s fiction.

The paperback publication of Willing Spirits is a grand encore to Schieber’s well received novel, The Sinner’s Guide to Confession.

Willing Spirits is no ordinary love story. It is a sensual and understanding story about the struggle to heal from failed maternal relationships, the passionate love women feel for their children, the lure of sexual desire and attachment to men who consistently disappoint, and the bond women share that makes it all tolerable. Suffused with humor and tenderness, Willing Spirits is a celebration of love in all its guises—between man and woman, between parent and child, and above all, between women.

Jane Hoffman and Gwen Baker, both teachers and in their forties, have a friendship that helps them endure. Years after Gwen is abandoned and left to raise two sons alone, she finds herself in love with a married man. After Jane is humiliated by her husband’s infidelity and Gwen must face her own uncertain path, the two women turn to each other.

Now, as each is tested by personal crisis, Jane and Gwen face new challenges—as mothers, as daughters, as lovers. And in the process, they will learn unexpected truths about their friendship—and themselves.

During the month of March, Phyllis Schieber, will tour cyberspace to share details about herself and Willing Spirits. She will visit a wide variety of blogs and talk with readers who want to get “up close and personal” with the woman behind the books. Phyllis loves to talk with readers and you can see the schedule at http://virtualblogtour.blogspot.com/2009/01/willing-spirits-by-phyllis-schieber.html

Visit Phyllis Schieber on the tour and be entered for a drawing for a free book. Each comment on any of the blogs in the tour will offer another chance to win a free copy of Willing Spirits or Sinner’s Guide to Confession. A couple of people who make a real impression on Phyllis during the tour will be chosen to win a free book. We’ll see you on the virtual blog tour trail.

Willing Spirits by Phyllis Schieber

In March, Phyllis Schieber will tour cyber space to promote her book – Willing Spirits. In January, she toured to share her spicy novel – Sinner’s Guide to Confession and we enjoyed wonderful reviews and comments from blog owners and readers.

Willing Spirits by Phyllis Schieber

Phyllis Schieber’s graceful debut novel is the story of two friends leading lives most women will find familiar. As Jane Hoffman and Gwen Baker attempt to understand their roles as daughters, wives, mothers and lovers, they depend on their friendship to cushion their disenchantment and to celebrate their triumphs.

Jane Hoffman, a schoolteacher in her forties, is forced to confront her reasons for remaining in an unhappy marriage when she finds her husband, Arnold, has been unfaithful. His indiscretion hurls Jane into a new life that is alternately terrifying and gratifying. Her love for her daughter Caroline is also tested when an unforeseen event forces Jane to prove that a mother’s love has no boundaries. As Jane negotiates her own murky logic for making the choices she has, she comes to see herself as far more able than she had ever thought.

Gwen Baker, also a teacher and in her forties, survives a rigid Southern upbringing only to marry an egotistical and cruel professor who later abandons her, leaving her to raise their sons, Matt and Ethan, alone. And while she occasionally takes a lover, nothing really satisfies her. It is Jane who ultimately coaxes Gwen out of her isolation. Together they discover that the conflicting and binding roles women assume be endured without other women. Even after Gwen meets Daniel, a colleague’s husband, and finds love, it is Jane who offers the spiritual solace that only another woman can.

About Author Phyllis Schieber:
The first great irony of my life was that I was born in a Catholic hospital. My parents, survivors of the Holocaust, had settled in the South Bronx among other new immigrants. In the mid-fifties, my family moved to Washington Heights. The area offered scenic views of the Hudson River and the Palisades, as well as access to Fort Tryon Park and the mysteries of the Cloisters. I graduated from George Washington High School.
I graduated from high school at sixteen, went on to Bronx Community College, transferred to and graduated from Herbert H. Lehman College with a B.A. in English and a New York State license to teach English. I earned my M.A. in Literature from New York University and later my M.S. as a developmental specialist from Yeshiva University. I have worked as a high school English teacher and as a learning disabilities specialist. My first novel , Strictly Personal, for young adults, was published by Fawcett-Juniper. Willing Spirits was published by William Morrow. My most recent novel, The Sinner’s Guide to Confession, was released by Berkley Putnam. In March 2009, Berkley Putnam will issue the first paperback publication of Willing Spirits.

We’re sharing a couple of Dr Ava’s article with you. The deadline to enter the World’s Best Lover Contest is getting close (February 6th), so we’re working to get you in the mood to submit your entry. Remember, all you do to enter is to write a few paragraphs to explain why your lover is the best. It does not need to be graphic – heartfelt is great. Why does your lover mean so much to you and how do they show that they love you? PG shares some great (and explicit) information above and these two posts are appropriate for anyone to read —
