Archive – Willing Spirits by Phyllis Schieber

In March, Phyllis Schieber will tour cyber space to promote her book – Willing Spirits. In January, she toured to share her spicy novel – Sinner’s Guide to Confession and we enjoyed wonderful reviews and comments from blog owners and readers.

Willing Spirits by Phyllis Schieber

Phyllis Schieber’s graceful debut novel is the story of two friends leading lives most women will find familiar. As Jane Hoffman and Gwen Baker attempt to understand their roles as daughters, wives, mothers and lovers, they depend on their friendship to cushion their disenchantment and to celebrate their triumphs.

Jane Hoffman, a schoolteacher in her forties, is forced to confront her reasons for remaining in an unhappy marriage when she finds her husband, Arnold, has been unfaithful. His indiscretion hurls Jane into a new life that is alternately terrifying and gratifying. Her love for her daughter Caroline is also tested when an unforeseen event forces Jane to prove that a mother’s love has no boundaries. As Jane negotiates her own murky logic for making the choices she has, she comes to see herself as far more able than she had ever thought.

Gwen Baker, also a teacher and in her forties, survives a rigid Southern upbringing only to marry an egotistical and cruel professor who later abandons her, leaving her to raise their sons, Matt and Ethan, alone. And while she occasionally takes a lover, nothing really satisfies her. It is Jane who ultimately coaxes Gwen out of her isolation. Together they discover that the conflicting and binding roles women assume be endured without other women. Even after Gwen meets Daniel, a colleague’s husband, and finds love, it is Jane who offers the spiritual solace that only another woman can.

Willing Spirits is no ordinary love story. It is a sensual and understanding story about the struggle to heal from failed maternal relationships, the passionate love women feel for their children, the lure of sexual desire and attachment to men who consistently disappoint, and the bond women share that makes it all tolerable. Suffused with humor and tenderness, Willing Spirits is a celebration of love in all its guises—between man and woman, between parent and child, and above all, between women.

About Author Phyllis Schieber:
The first great irony of my life was that I was born in a Catholic hospital. My parents, survivors of the Holocaust, had settled in the South Bronx among other new immigrants. In the mid-fifties, my family moved to Washington Heights. The area offered scenic views of the Hudson River and the Palisades, as well as access to Fort Tryon Park and the mysteries of the Cloisters. I graduated from George Washington High School. I graduated from high school at sixteen, went on to Bronx Community College, transferred to and graduated from Herbert H. Lehman College with a B.A. in English and a New York State license to teach English. I earned my M.A. in Literature from New York University and later my M.S. as a developmental specialist from Yeshiva University. I have worked as a high school English teacher and as a learning disabilities specialist. My first novel , Strictly Personal, for young adults, was published by Fawcett-Juniper. Willing Spirits was published by William Morrow. My most recent novel, The Sinner’s Guide to Confession, was released by Berkley Putnam. In March 2009, Berkley Putnam will issue the first paperback publication of Willing Spirits.

Archive – Whale Hunting Women by Dr Barbara Weaver Smith

In May and June – Barbara Weaver Smith will tour cyber space to promote her latest book. Learn a bit more about her “Whale Hunting Process” below.

Virtual Blog Tour – Whale Hunting Women Vol 1

People Who Need to Read Whale Hunting Women

1. Women business owners—ranging from the home-based business to the very successful small to midsize business.
2. Women executives and managers.
3. Women “deal makers” both employees and volunteers who do deals in the education and nonprofit arenas—board members, fundraisers. Note: many women fall into at least two of these categories.

Topics That Are Discussed in Whale Hunting Women

* Women are great whale hunters (big deal-makers)
* Women’s talents and preferences are a perfect fit for deal-making in today’s economy
* Women sometimes think of themselves or their enterprise as “too small” to do big deals
* Community deals and education deals are as important and as challenging as business deals

About Whale Hunting Women [Vol. 1]
Whale Hunting Women—how women do big deals in business and community. For inspiration, motivation, and direction, this book celebrates women as deal-makers and includes how to “break the minnow mindset” and how to create a fast-growth culture. It documents three cultural transformations that favor women’s leadership styles: the trend to replace competition with collaboration; the need to transform bureaucracy to entrepreneurship; and the value of perceiving a world of abundance rather than a culture of scarcity. The book offers advice on how small companies or organizations can manage their public presence to generate the whales’ confidence that they have the capabilities and professionalism to complete big deals with big customers and partners. The book incorporates a deal-maker’s journal; each chapter includes worksheets to prompt reflections and action plans.

* Learning to listen to that little inner voice
* Taking calculated risks in order to be successful and fulfilled

About Author Doris Roper:

What would you do if you had three major relationships in your life and the same woman interfered in all three of them? How would you handle it? This is what happened to Doris Roper. First, her husband of two years fell in love with this woman (*Candy) and in the midst of trying to decide what to do about it, Doris fell pregnant with her first child and the decision was made to continue with the marriage. More than 5 years later, the marriage ended in a very difficult divorce, and Doris entered her next major relationship with *Dick. Two years into this relationship, Doris discovered that he was cheating on her with Candy. Shocked and devastated, this became the starting point of an inner journey that woke up her life.

The growth and insights gained as a result of her experiences, put Doris where she is today—with a fabulous marriage, a challenging and fulfilling profession, and a story that inspires and motivates other women to follow her example.

Doris focuses on working with women dealing with a transition to build a solid financial foundation. Her experiences of going through a difficult divorce, rebuilding and running a business as a single mother with young children, her mother becoming a widow at 41 and transitioning to a new continent and successful career, give her an understanding and compassion for women dealing with transitions of their own. Doris found a large percentage of women don’t feel competent when it comes to managing finances and investments, because women undervalue themselves and lack confidence.

Doris is the founder of The W.I.T. Institute, an educational and support organization for women to master their financial lives. Doris helps women to change their belief systems about life, money and success as she knows that it’s their limiting beliefs that keep so many women from being successful.

About The New Rules for Mortgages

The New Rules For Mortgages is the latest and most current book on how to get the best mortgage and the lowest interest rate out there…..but it is very different!

This book is different from all in the rest in that the material is kept current with frequent updates online. Dale Robyn Siegel rewrote the book four times in 2008 alone until she came up with the idea to get the book out and keep the material current with online updates available only to owners of the book. It is the only way to have a how-to book on real estate with current material!

The mortgage industry has been transformed into the Wild Wild West and you need to be prepared before you get out there. Dale Robyn Siegel does just that for you in this short, concise and humorous book covering all you need to know about getting a mortgage in today’s world. A how-to book on real estate written by an attorney, 20 year veteran in the mortgage industry AND a college level professor. The material is a combination of her classroom format, her every day knowledge and expertise combined with real life experiences to bring the point home. This works and you will love it!

The book is short, around 200 pages, so there is no room for fluff or filler. It is easy to read, set up in chapters and short essays on specific topics. You can read the entire book in an afternoon on the beach or in a few short train commutes. You can even flip through and easily pick out parts you want to concentrate on.

A few interesting and favorite topics covered:

* What are the new guidelines for FICO scores and loan to values and how do they affect mortgage rates?
* What is Rapid Rescore Response and can it really improve your credit score in 48 hours?
* How to establish an alternative credit profile for foreigners and students
* How to get money from your 401k without a penalty
* When is a loan from my father-in-law called a gift?
* Why is so important to show as much money in reserves as you can?
* What is the difference between a reduced documentation loan and a no-income verification loan?
* PMI v self insured. Which one is the bigger rip-off?
* What will it cost you to refinance your home and pull cash out?
* What do you do when your bank goes out of business while they are working on your mortgage?
* Appraisal fraud and how is it affecting the value of your home
* You mean my mortgage banker is not a real bank!
* What is an appraisal contingency clause vs. a mortgage contingency clause and how can you lose your deposit if you do not know?
* Points, origination fees, discount fees and broker fees. How do you avoid them all?
* What really affects the mortgage rates?
* Where do you find the best lawyer in town?

Archive – The Man Overboard

Darryl Hagar, author of The Man Overboard, will share his story of being a merchant marine and working on 900′ tankers and the extra curricular activities that led his life for over 25 years.

The Man Overboard is a vivid account of one man’s tumultuous 25 year round-the-world odyssey, shrouded in the haze of drugs and a sea of alcohol, punctuated by indulgence, abuse, fear, illicit sex, violence, and frequent jail time.

Clean and sober for four years, and retired from the shipping industry since 2005, Hagar has dedicated his life to helping others find the path to recovery through public speaking, and leading group sessions in colleges, churches, high schools, prisons, hospital recovery centers and other settings.

About The Man Overboard

Drawn in by the compelling tales and sometimes exotic settings, readers will be shocked at this glimpse into the little-exposed epidemic of addiction at sea, and will come away amazed there aren’t more shipping disasters like the Exxon Valdez. But it’s the drama when Hagar returns home and his struggle through recovery that makes the book real and relatable. A broken relationship, nearly losing custody of his son, and alienation from his family and friends are just some of the costs Hagar pays and portrays faithfully in his 590 page memoir The Man Overboard.

The Man Overboard; Darryl Hagar; Trade Paperback; 590 pages; 6” x 9”; Publication Date: March 24th 2009

About Author Darryl Hagar

Darryl Hagar is passionate about his recovery and committed to helping others find the strength and support needed to reclaim their lives from the insidious affects of addiction. As a motivational speaker, Darryl has addressed hundreds of groups and shared his message of empowerment and responsibility. Today, Darryl adds the title of author to his resume with the release of his memoir, The Man Overboard “How a Merchant Marine Officer Survived the Raging Storm of Alcoholism and Drug Addiction”.

A graduate of Maine Maritime Academy, class of ‘85, Hagar went to sea as an Able Body Seaman with Military Sealift Command where his role focused on ship maintenance, maintaining mooring lines as the ship’s cargo was loaded and unloaded, and steering the ship in and out of port. After a year-long stint with Crest Oil Tankers, in 1987 he moved on to Maritime Overseas Corporation and gained the designation Third Mate where he was responsible for standing the bridge watch, supervising the able body seaman, ensuring shipboard safety practices were adhered to and was in charge of running the ship’s pumps and valves during the loading and unloading process.

Promoted to Second Mate in 1990 Hagar attained his professional goal of becoming the ship’s navigator. The navigator’s primary role is laying out the voyage, maintaining charts, radar and other electronics and includes the responsibility of ship’s radio operator. Moving on to Alaska Tanker Company in 1999, Hagar earned Chief Mate status. He retired from the industry in 2005.

Darryl Hagar is a native Mainer and a graduate of Maine Maritime Academy. He rose through the ranks to attain Chief Mate of Motor and Steam of any Gross Tons Upon Oceans. Clean and sober for four years, and retired from the shipping industry since 2005, Hagar lives in recovery and hopes to reach people in crisis and help them on their voyage to sobriety.

About The Fearless Factor: Overcome the fears, doubts and anxieties that stop you from Being Your Best Self Now by Jacqueline Wales

Fear is one of the most powerful motivating forces in the human experience. Why then do we run from it, hide from it, pretend it’s not there? Because we believe it’s real. Fear is mostly imagination based, and if you change your thinking, you can change your life from being run by fear, to embracing the challenges that fear ignites within you. The Fearless Factor shows you how you can gain control of your life and start creating your best life now.

About Jacqueline Wales

What can you learn from a former alcoholic, mother of four, author, singer and global nomad who earned a black belt in karate at age 49, has performed in front of thousands of people, and developed a system to help people go beyond the fears, doubts and anxieties that hold their lives in limitation instead of abundance? – Plenty!

A lifelong adventurer, Wales began her motivational career on the tenement steps of her building at age 9 giving advice to the neighborhood children. After a few detours she began singing at age 40, writing at age 41 and at 43 she took up martial arts. At 49 she had earned a red belt in Tai Kwon Do and a black belt in Shotokan karate. Who says life begins at 40! She also sang in front of thousands of people as a lay-cantor for synagogues in Paris and Amsterdam, and recorded an album of original material. At 54, Jacqueline decided she wanted to go into business and began her first motivational company Fearless Fifties which later reinvented to The Fearless Factor. Jacqueline has been a global nomad for over forty years and has lived on three continents and six cities including London, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Paris, Amsterdam, New York and Bali. By applying the skills she learned in over thirty years of making change in her own life, Wales has gone on to achieve remarkable success after a lifetime of overcoming the odds. She presently lives in New York.

Jacqueline Wales is known the world over as The Fearless Lady. Her unique programs have helped women around the globe develop strong personal success, confident communication and clear visions of their goals. Jacqueline has successfully made the leap from author and caretaker to being an extraordinary force in the women’s self-help movement and succeeds with a winning personality and a commitment to help others achieve their goals. No theorist, she is a practical, hands-on, been there – done that lady who shares her knowledge and expertise with everyone she presents to.

Archive – Iggy the Iguana

Beginning February 1 – Melissa M Williams and Iggy the Iguana will tour cyber space and you’re invited to join them. We are so excited to bring you these stories of an iguana who can help children (and adults) learn about acceptance, friendship and diversity. We have a special giveaway for the most active and the best commenter during the tour – so visit each stop, read the post and leave a comment and you will have a chance to win an Iggy gift pack. The schedule is posted below and we look forward to seeing you there.

Iggy the Iguana

Iggy the Iguana is the first book in the Iggy Chapter Book Series for ages 7 to 11. The story focuses on the major themes of acceptance, friendship, and diversity while Iggy starts a brand new school. The transition from a private “all-lizard” school to a public “all-animal” school is eye opening, as Iggy soon accepts that just because other animals are different doesn’t mean they can’t be your friends. By the end of Iggy’s 4th grade year, he realizes that changing schools was the best move he could have ever made!

Summer League (Sequel)

Summer League is the second book in the Iggy the Iguana Chapter Book Series for ages 7 to 11. After an exciting school year, Iggy and his friends kick off their summer vacation with some fun in the sun and … baseball! While playing on his All-Star little league team, Iggy faces a very difficult situation that could change his future in sports forever. Iggy learns many valuable lessons during the summer, most importantly, it is not wise to keep secrets from adults and we can’t judge others on the outside.

Iggy the Iguana includes an entire line of products. These are some of the Iggy the Iguana products that are available.

  1. Iggy the Iguana in Hardback and Paperback and Audio CD
  2. Summer League (Iggy’s Sequel) in HB and PB
  3. Iggy the Iguana Stuffed Animal
  4. Snap Shell the Turtle Stuffed Animal
  5. Additional Items: Iggy Baseball Collectors cards, Clothes for Iggy, Bookmarks, T-shirts

Archive – How to Be a Sales Superstar

Beginning November 1, Mark Tewart, author of How to be a Sales Superstat will tour cyber space. We will be visiting sales, marketing and business blogs. Mark’s touring during November and December. We plan to visit many sites and look forward to sharing a lot of information to help people become Sales Superstars.

About How To Be A Sales Superstar: Break All The Rules and Succeed While Doing It

A handy guide that every sales professional or business person can use to become a sales superstar

These days, making the sale is tougher than ever. That’s why sales professionals and business owners need more than just smooth talk to make it in the business. Selling is a job that requires an updated toolkit for real, lasting success. How to Be a Sales Superstar teaches salespeople all the specialized skills they need to be a superstar and shows them how to implement those skills immediately. Readers will master the people skills necessary to relate to prospects and read their meaning; the life skills needed to be successful at any endeavor; the marketing skills to draw in new customers and keep the old ones; and the sales skills to eliminate objections and close the deal. You can become a sales superstar—and get rich doing it.

Most salespeople are frustrated from underachieving or failing in their sales career. Because traditional sales training is outdated, it contributes to that frustration. In How to Be a Sales Superstar, Mark Tewart defines a new course that you can use to join the elite ranks of sales superstars.

Tewart teaches you how to develop the skills to succeed in this challenging and
rewarding profession. But this book isn’t about how to be simply good or better at the art of sales. Instead, it reveals the myths of selling that keep the majority of salespeople broke, frustrated, and unhappy. It’s about how to succeed wildly and become a sales superstar.

To be a sales superstar, Tewart reveals, you must master sales, people, life, and marketing skills—and he explains step by step how to implement these skills in all aspects of business. He shows how people skills are not just about relating to people, but being able to understand them in order to make relationships work. He underscores the importance of life skills and why you must learn exactly how to think, what to do, when to do it, and why you are doing it. He reveals marketing skills that use low- or no-cost techniques to get new customers and keep the ones you already have. And he provides sales skills that show you ways to eliminate eight out of ten objections before they even happen.

Selling is a job that requires an updated toolkit for real, lasting success. How to Be a Sales Superstar gives you all the specialized skills you need to sell more and sell better. Put these skills to work immediately and become a sales superstar.
