You took your comment and assumptions way too far - in the wrong direction. A loving God has no issue with people having a HEALTHY love and respect for themselves. If you don't love, accept and respect yourself in a healthy and positive way -- you leave the door open for others to manipulate, control and abuse you. We see it around us every day and more people need to understand how to have a healthy love for themselves -- this does NOT include people who are conceited or entitled. One of the things I tell people in any interview and any coaching consultations I do -- is that you are being a hypocrite if you expect and ask someone - including God and Jesus to love and cherish you - if you cannot manage to love, accept and respect yourself.

Having a healthy love and respect for themselves does NOT mean a person thinking they are equal to God of Jesus. Again, a loving and caring God doe not want any of us to put ourselves in a position to be manipulated and abused by other people because we feel inferior to other people.

There are six primary types of love - and they are NOT all the same. I would think you don't love God the way you love your spouse or partner. In turn you don't love your neighbors (who the bible tells us to love) the same way you love your family and close friends.

You should also take another look at 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 --- IF you have that kind of love - there would be no thought of being equal to God of Jesus. - "4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."

No where in the Bible (I'm a Christian) does it tell us to love ourselves. As a matter of fact, the bible warns that in the last days, people will be lovers of themselves rather than lovers of God (2 Timothy 3:2).

Love must be selfless and first be directed upwards to God and then outwards to others.

Self love, self esteem, etc. are selfish pursuits. Jesus was selfless when He gave up His life upon the cross. He loved His Father and mankind more than His own life. The bible says He made Himself "nothing" in order to sacrifice Himself for our sins.

Philippians 2:5-11 says this:

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. 4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.

5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in very nature[a] God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
7 but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature[b] of a servant,
   being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man,
   he humbled himself
   and became obedient to death—
      even death on a cross!
9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
